Filson Historical Society Archives

About this collection

Welcome to the Community newspaper digital archive, a project of The Filson Historical Society. Here you can search and browse nearly half a century of Jewish journalism in Louisville, Kentucky.

Community newspaper began as a bulletin published by the Jewish Community Federation of Louisville. In 1973 Community shifted into a bi-weekly newspaper covering both local and national Jewish news. In 2011 Community switched to the monthly publishing schedule it maintains today. Throughout its run (and available here) Community has included periodic supplements such as Jewish Federation annual reports, calendar listings for the Jewish Community Center, and special holiday and themed issues. In 2019 The Jewish Community of Louisville donated its complete holdings of Community to the Filson Historical Society for archiving and preservation.

To date, this archive includes all available issues of Community from the 1970s through the 1990s. Years 2000-present are expected to be added by the end of 2021. You can also access digital copies of Community from 2013-present on the Community Newspaper website.
